Miriam Peretz - 2 Children Killed in the IDF

Tags: Soldiers and Defense, Inspiration and Hope, News, Youth, Community, Family

For Israel’s 70th birthday, Miriam Peretz was chosen to receive the Israel Prize in Lifetime Achievement for Strengthening the Jewish-Israeli spirit.

She who lost both two of her sons, Uriel and Eliraz, who were killed in action, the former in Lebanon in 1998 at the age of 22, and the latter in the Gaza Strip in 2010, at age 31 has become an inspiration for the country.

Miriam lives out the legacy of her sons, devoting her life to instilling the values of Zionism, leadership and achievement in the next generations. She speaks in front of groups every week, on a completely voluntary basis, including schools and cadets in the IDF Officers course, in addition to assisting bereaved families and wounded IDF soldiers.

Miriam explains: “I didn’t choose the difficult circumstances of my life but I did choose how to respond to them. I chose to pick myself up and prove that it is possible to go on and achieve. I owed that much to my sons.”

And she is right. It is all about choice.
