TOLDOT YISRAEL

Do you have an eyewitness account from 1948 when the Jewish State of Israel came into existence?

We learn from Toldot Yisrael that 65 years ago, 35 young Haganah soldiers--mostly students at the Hebrew University--set out from Jerusalem to bring much-needed supplies to the kibbutzim in the besieged Etzion Bloc south of the city. The soldiers were ambushed en route, and, despite fighting valiantly, the entire company was killed.

This is their tragic yet inspiring story:

November 29, 1947: The Story of a Vote
A vote that lasted a mere three minutes on November 29, 1947 changed the course of Jewish History and brought 20 centuries of Jewish homelessness to an end.

Echos Of A Shofar
This is the story of six Jewish heroes who defiantly blew the shofar at the Kotel (Western Wall) over sixty years ago, when it was illegal to do so in British Mandatory Palestine. The British passed a law in 1930 forbidding Jews to blow the shofar at the Kotel, pray loudly there, or bring Torah scrolls, so as not to offend the Arab population.

Toldot Yisrael is a Jerusalem based nonprofit dedicated to recording and sharing the firsthand testimonies of the men and women who helped found the State of Israel.
