Blue and White Unity
While Israel is under fire, in our homeland, on our borders and around the world, we must make every effort to strengthen our people in our fight for Jewish rights. Spreading our Blue and White connection through our national colors can brighten the world and show our unity in standing defiant against the enemies.
In a unique effort to build unity and pride in this difficult time, the Blue and White unity campaign is a way to encourage communities, families, groups and organizations to show their solidarity by wearing Israel’s national colors however and whenever possible - creating a wave of national unity that defies the divisions and distance between us.
Blue and white are historically associated with Jewish heritage. The traditional Jewish prayer shawl, known as the tallit, is traditionally white with blue (techelet) stripes or fringes (tzitzit). These fringes were G-d's way of giving the people of Israel a tangible reminder to keep His commandments and remember His active presence, like a piece of string tied around your finger or a knot in your handkerchief. The techelet is the ancient color associated with Judaism, written in the Torah, passed down from Mount Sinai, and woven into the fabric of Jewish traditional garb and practice from generation to generation. Just as when one wrap themselves in the tallit during prayer, it represents the embrace of G-d’s presence and protection. So, too, can our wearing blue and white be a protection and a source of pride and courage. The colors of the flag of the Nation and Land of Israel, blue and white, with the reference to the stripes, serve as a unifying symbol for Israel's diverse population, tied to Jewish heritage that represents the country's landscape: the blue of the sky and the white of purity and peace. The Star of David (Magen David in Hebrew) in the center is a traditional symbol strongly associated with Judaism and Jewish identity. It is considered a symbol of protection.
There are many ways we can infuse our lives with personal activism. Our collective Blue and White pride can make a difference in raising the national morale and a link to heritage of the colors that have we have carried with us from Sinai until today.
