Hate comes in many forms, from many sides. We may never succeed in drowning out the voices of hate, even as our attempts to counter it are demonized, but we can always empower others to stay strong in spite of it all. We must now raise our voices, come together, and do more together.

Everywhere we turn, the pressures are growing. And we each feel it, we want to do more.

We feel incapacitated by the hate because we know our voices are silenced by the “justifications” offered in defense of those who murder Jews.

A firebombed synagogue in New Jersey, a shooting massacre in Jerusalem.
Anyone who believes them to be unrelated is allowing their politics to dictate their understanding of the truth at hand.

And we should feel proud and knowledgeable enough to defend the necessary actions taken by a Jewish sovereignty to protect her citizens from terror such as this. Today more than ever, we have to see the writing on the wall. We have to face our fears, and face the hate, and work together to do more.

The time is now.

START THE CONVERSATION

THIS SCRIPT AND THESE QUESTIONS CAN BE USED IN ANY RANGE OF GROUP SETTINGS. WE HOPE YOU WILL SPREAD THEM WIDE AND FAR TO HELP INFORM AND EMPOWER EVERYONE AFFECTED BY THE HATE.

  • What do you think it means to “see the writing on the wall?”
  • Why is the Jewish response to anti-Jewish hatred considered paranoia instead of taken seriously?
  • Do you think a discussion about Jewhatred today should include references to the Holocaust?
  • Do you think a discussion or memorial program about the Holocaust should include a discussion about antisemitism today?
  • Does it have to be a physical violent act to be considered a hate act against Jews?
  • Should swastikas and Jewhating graffiti arouse Jewish fear? Are they legitimate threats to be afraid of?
  • What, realistically, could someone do if they see something that is antisemitic?
  • How could common individuals do something small to encourage an understanding of the Holocaust and its message for today beyond “Never Forget”?

We must show the world, before it is too late, before history repeats itself yet again, that we will not be silenced. We have a right to our own story. Jewish rights are human rights, and like any human, one of those basic rights is the right to life.
